The process of applying for building approval through your local council can be lengthy, with lots of bureaucratic red tape.
Private Certifiers are becoming increasingly popular, as they offer a more efficient and streamlined process for gaining building approval.
Introduced in South Australia on 1st April 2019, the Accredited Professionals Scheme for Private Certifiers is designed to achieve a higher standard of reliability, flexibility, and accountability through the development planning process.
Once appointed to a development, the building certifier will inspect the building plans and specifications before issuing a building permit. The building certifier will also monitor and inspect the progress at regular intervals once construction commences.
If the standard of work is satisfactory, the certifier will give the green light for the building to progress to the next stage. If something needs correction, they will work with the developer and builder to address the issue.
When a property development appoints a Private Certifier, this arrangement cannot be changed unless there are extenuating circumstances, which would then require the Minister’s approval. This has been done in South Australia to protect the buyers for that development.
This means that the Private Certifier appointed to the URB4N apartment development holds us to strict standards, ensuring the highest quality build.
