There is almost always an excuse to skip the gym, right? It’s too hot or too cold. It’s too early or too late. You’re too tired or too busy. The latest bingeable series has just dropped on Netflix. You’ve been invited out to dinner. Your best friend is having a mid-life crisis. It’s a day ending in Y. We get it!
That’s why home workouts can be such a good option, and a balcony workout can be the best option of all. You will save a fortune on gym membership and being able to exercise when it suits you means you are more likely to stick to your workout goals.
Best of all, you don’t need any fancy equipment and you can tailor your balcony workout zone to your personal preferences.
Here are five suggestions for workouts you can easily do on your balcony:
Yoga or Pilates: Keep your equipment in a stylish wicker basket, then simply roll out your mat and set up your space any time you want to work out.
Strength training: Set up a corner of your balcony with hand weights and resistance bands and work through a range of exercises to grow and strengthen your muscles.
Circuit training: Combine several in-place exercises to achieve an intense full-body workout. Alternate between star jumps, jogging in place, squats and lunges to strengthen your legs and incorporate some cardio, then add in pushups and planks to work your upper body.
Hula hooping: Simple, but incredibly effective, hula hooping burns calories, increases core strength and improves balance. It is also incredibly affordable, with hula hoops available at most toy stores for a few dollars.
Barre exercise: using a simple chair for balance, you can complete a full barre workout incorporating elements of ballet, yoga, and Pilates for a low impact, high intensity workout.
